River Run Garbage Grab is this Friday

Volunteers are still needed to clean up the river from Saylorville to Yellow Banks Park on Friday, August 19. The event allows volunteers to remove trash from the river or along its adjacent trails. Click here to volunteer for the event.

Iowa State Fair Park & Ride at Southeast Polk to open late on Thursday, August 18

The Iowa State Fair Park & Ride at Southeast Polk High School will open to Iowa State Fair goers at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August, 18, instead of 8:30 a.m. due to another event occurring at the high school from 7 to 9 a.m. In addition, the Southeast Polk lot has been at or near capacity nearly every day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. People going to the Fair Thursday before 9:30 a.m. or any day between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. are encouraged to use the Park & Ride locations at the Iowa State Capitol or Center Street. The City of Please Hill is now accepting applications for seven members to be appointed on the Public Arts Advisory Commission. The commission will play a vital role in advising and assisting the Pleasant Hill City Council in the promotion of public art and performing arts within the City’s physical environment and public spaces. Pat & Lisa Bruner are winners of the rain barrel contest

Pat & Lisa Bruner win the rain barrel contest 

Pat & Lisa Bruner of Pleasant Hill are the proud owners of a new rain barrel. Pat was randomly selected from nearly 50 participants who entered the contest. The rain barrel contest started July 1st and ran through July 31st, giving residents the chance to enter online, at the Public Library, and City Hall.

Residents still interested in installing a rain barrel can receive reimbursement for the installation up to 50 percent or $75, whichever is the lesser value. Learn more

Road repairs in the City

Road repairs in the City

South Pleasant Hill Blvd, north of the railroad crossing is down to a single lane for culvert repairs. The road is expected to reopen mid-week, weather permitting.

As a reminder, travel safely through construction areas and be mindful of construction workers.

EVENTS
  • Art on the Lake: Saturday, September 17, 11 am-5 pm. Provides the public an opportunity to meet, talk with and purchase artwork from 20-30 Iowa artists while listening to live music. Kids are encouraged to attend and create an art project at the kids tent. 

  • Halloween Party: Friday, October 21, 6:30-8 pm at Doanes Park Youth Center. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costume and come to enjoy indoor games, snacks and prizes. This event is sponsored by the Pleasant Hill Library and Parks & Recreation. 

  • Firefighters' Pancake Breakfast: Saturday, October 15, 6:30-11 am at Fire Station, 5151 Maple Drive in Pleasant Hill. Families are encouraged to come meet their local fire department volunteers, friends and neighbors. Donations will benefit the firefighters association. Pancakes, sausage, milk, orange juice and coffee will be served.
