City received grant through Paint Iowa Beautiful program

City received grant through Paint Iowa Beautiful program 

The City of Pleasant Hill received a grant through the Paint Iowa Beautiful program to paint two sheds, which will be used by the Pleasant Hill Soccer Club. The grant program is administered by Keep Iowa Beautiful and paint is provided by Diamond Vogel Paint Company.
 
The Paint Iowa Beautiful program provides communities free paint for a wide variety of public service projects throughout Iowa. On Saturday, June 25th, the Pleasant Hill Soccer League and Levi-N-Lace 4-H Clubs painted one of the two shed at Sunrise Park. The second shed will be painted at a later date. Involving these groups increases community involvement and reflects pride within our city. Read more

Take Part in Des Moines River Paddling Event July 8th

On July 8th, the Des Moines Area MPO and Iowa DNR are hosting a paddling event in the Des Moines metro as part of the Greater Des Moines Water Trails and Greenways Plan. These excursions will take paddlers through the wild urban areas many Des Moines residents rarely see.
 
Concluding the float, the Iowa DNR, Des Moines Area MPO, and Polk County Conservation will be hosting a number of water-related activities for people of all ages; including crafts, water quality testing, and more at the boat access in Pleasant Hill. The boat access is located across from the Public Works shop at 5440 Vandalia Road. Refreshments will be available to purchase from Outside Scoop Ice Cream food truck until 8 p.m. Read more

Farmer's Market on Thursday's

The Pleasant Hill Farmers' Market is held every Thursday afternoon from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Berean Assembly of God Church parking lot.  Stop by and check out a wide selection of locally-grown produce, baked goods, plants and canned goods. The market is located at 5299 E. University Avenue in Pleasant Hill. See you there tomorrow.

If you are looking for something to do on Sunday afternoon’s, stop by the Doanes Park Tennis Courts to play in a pickleball league. The league plays from 4-6 p.m. and beginner players are welcome. Click here for more information.

Enter to win a rain barrel

Enter to win a rain barrel in July

If you are a Pleasant Hill resident, you will have the chance to win a rain barrel during the month of July after completing a brief survey about stormwater. Rain barrels are a way to collect water for gardening. Not only do they benefit the environment, but they can add character to your home.

In July, the rain barrel will be on display at City Hall and the library, rotating in between each location. Beginning July 1st, residents can also enter online. Read more

Increase in fees July 1st

A 5 percent sewer rate increase will impact residential customers by $1.22 per month, beginning July 1st. This rate increase allows the City to get ahead of operational costs from the Des Moines Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation Authority due to an increase in the percentage of flow going to the treatment facility attributed to Pleasant Hill. EVENTS
  • Jazz in July: Thursday, July 28, 6-9 pm at Copper Creek Lake Park. Tina Haase Findlay with the Alex Murphy Jazz Trio of Chicago will be performing. Feel free to bring your picnic baskets, coolers, and enjoy great jazz music.
  • Family Fun Fest: Saturday, July 30, Copper Creek Lake Park. Activities begin at 4 pm, Finding Nemo movie begins at approximately 7 pm, with fireworks to conclude the evening. Kids can enjoy laser tag, spin art, and inflatables before the movie. Popcorn, pizza, hot dogs, Kona Ice, sode and water will be available for purchase.
