Facilities at Doanes Park receive improvements

Recent improvements were made to the concession stand and garage at Doanes Park, which will increase usability and aesthetics for those visiting and utilizing these spaces. It took hundreds of volunteer hours to have the concessions stand ready for the Little League season. The City is grateful for the commitment and contributions made by the Little League and local donations to make the concession stand a great place for volunteers to work and for visitors to enjoy a delicious snack during a little league game. Pleasant Hill Police Department welcomes Officer Catrenich and Officer Rice

Meet the newest members of the Pleasant Hill Police Department Randall Rice and Jason Catrenich. Prior to joining the Pleasant Hill Police Department, Officer Rice was a Motor Vehicle Enforcement Officer with the State of Iowa DOT and also a part-time Police Officer with the Pleasant Hill Police Department. Officer Catrenich began his career in law enforcement with the City of Creston. We are excited to have them on our team and believe they will be a great asset to our community.

Chill on the Hill begins Friday, May 20

Chill on the Hill will begin a week earlier this year, Friday, May 20 and run through Friday, June 24. Live concerts will take place from 6 to 9 pm at Copper Creek Lake Park. Admission is $8 (includes the first two beverage tickets) – food and beverages will be available for purchase at each Friday event. Attendees must be age 21 or older to attend. No pets or outside food and beverage will be allowed. Seating is limited, bring lawn chairs or blankets. Also, if you are registered for Bike Month, bicycle riders will receive free admission on May 20 & 27. Read more

If you are a senior with free time on Wednesday mornings, we encourage you to join the Pleasant Hill Senior Tennis League. This league is meant for ages 55+. It's a great way to meet people and play the game of tennis. Beginner tennis players are welcome! We hope to see you this morning.  Read more

Youth Bowling Camp

Register for Youth Bowling Camp

Pleasant Hill Parks & Recreation and Great Escape are partnering to offer a week long bowling camp. Attendees will be divided into age groups to learn fundamentals including; approach, delivery, hand position, release, spot bowling, and spare conversions. Bowling instructors will be instructing the camp. Classes will be held June 20-24 from 10-11:30 am. Cost is $35/person. Read more

The deadline is approaching to apply to be on a Board or Commission

Members of the community can volunteer on a Board or Commission and get involved in their city government. These activities help shape and influence public policy, and some also hear appeals, provide expertise, advocate, receive public concerns, or establish, review, and enforce policies and regulations. Appointments to Pleasant Hill city boards and commissions are made by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.

There will be vacancies on the following city boards and commission, beginning July 1, 2016. Applications are being accepted through May 31, 2016.

Plant Some Shade tree pick-up is on Saturday

Plant Some Shade tree pick-up is on Saturday

If you ordered trees through the Plant Some Shade® tree program, you can pick them up on Saturday, May 14 from 8:30 to 11 am at the Hoover State Office Building, Lot #3, 1305 East Walnut Street in Des Monies.

This tree-planting program is funded through MidAmerican Energy Company in cooperation with Polk County Conservation, Great Outdoors Foundation and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forestry Bureau. Read more
